Here are some Important Home Safety Tips and Precautions During Holidays:
FRONT DOOR
- Make sure the door is locked and that your home is secure by using a deadbolt or chain lock on the front door.
- Keep a spare key hidden in case you need to let someone inside, but don't leave it on display where others can find it easily (like by hanging it over the doorknob).
- Check for peepholes before opening your front door at night and make sure there are no gaps around them; otherwise, an intruder could look through them to see who's coming or going into your home!
WINDOWS/GLASS
- Make sure windows are closed and locked.
- Make sure all glass is secure.
- Make sure all window coverings are closed, including shades and curtains.
- Check that mirrors are covered or don't have reflective surfaces that could cause injury during a storm or fall if you're in the path of debris thrown by wind gusts (which can be very strong).
FIREPLACE
- Use a fireplace screen. The fireplace is used for cooking and heating, but it's also a great place to keep ashes cool. If you're going to burn wood in your fireplace, make sure that you have the right kind of firewood and check with your local fire department to make sure that it's safe for outdoor use.
- Keep the ashes cool. When using a traditional wood-fired stove or open fire pit, keep ashes from getting too hot by pouring them into an outdoor container such as a bucket or garbage can before they can do any harm!
HEATING SYSTEMS
- Turn off the heat before going to sleep.
- Make sure that your fireplace or wood-burning stove is properly vented, and use it only when necessary.
- Never leave a space heater unattended even if you're gone for just a few minutes; check on it regularly and turn it off if necessary. Also, keep children and pets away from any appliance that generates heat (like an oven) because it can be burned by hot surfaces or scalded by steam from the appliance itself!
KITCHEN SAFETY
- Don't leave the stove on when you leave the kitchen. This is a common mistake that can result in an accident, so make sure to turn off the gas before leaving your home.
- Don't cook with a child or pet in the kitchen. Children and pets should never be allowed near any type of flammable liquid or combustible objects such as candles, matches, and lighters because they are prone to accidents if they get their hands on them.
- Don’t cook on a stove that isn’t working properly; it may be dangerous if there is no heat coming out from underneath it at all! If this happens then call an electrician immediately so he can check out what's wrong with your appliance and make sure everything works properly again before cooking anything else for dinner tonight!
ELECTRIC SYSTEMS
When you're away from home, it's important to have a backup power source. This can be as simple as having an extension cord in the garage for your garage door opener and some lights. But if you're going on vacation or moving into a new apartment, it might be more appropriate for you to invest in a generator.
Surge protectors: These devices protect electronic equipment from voltage spikes that could damage sensitive electronics such as televisions and computers by shutting off the power before it reaches its full potential. If using surge protectors isn’t enough, consider purchasing an extra surge protector for each device in order to avoid overloading any one outlet - especially those located near appliances like refrigerators or dishwashers!
These are some of the most important home safety tips and precautions during holidays. Take them seriously, because they can save your life.
- Keep your home safe during the holidays.
- Protect yourself from accidents and fires.
- Stay away from dangerous chemicals, sharp objects, and electrical outlets.
- Take care of the elderly or those with disabilities in your home.
- Check on children frequently while they're sleeping, especially if they're older than 5 years old (or younger).
We hope these tips and precautions will help you keep your home safe during the holidays. Do not forget to check the weather forecast, do not stay in a dangerous place, and be careful of fire hazards.
