How to Connect Printer to Your Laptop

Connecting a printer to your laptop is simple, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you'll need to find the port on the printer where you'll connect it to your computer. You can do this by turning on your computer and looking at its ports (usually located on the back or bottom). If nothing is showing up as an available port, check around for another one that might be open—you may have accidentally switched off its power when installing software or drivers before connecting it with a USB cable.

Once found, simply plug in an ethernet cable from either of these two ends into both devices: one end goes into one side of the port; another goes into another side of the same port. Then turn on both devices again and test out connectivity using any internet browser such as Internet Explorer or Chrome.

Find the port on the printer where you'll connect it to your computer

The printer's port will be labeled on the back of your device. If you can't find anything, it might be because your printer is a desktop model and not a laptop one. You'll also need to know how to uninstall some software before connecting your computer and printer (this is covered in more detail later).

Make sure that you have enough USB ports on your laptop for all of your devices

If you have a lot of devices and want them to connect to your computer at once, then you might want to get a hub or an expansion card that can increase the number of available ports on a single USB port.

Make sure both your printer and laptop are on the same network and that you're connected to the same router or modem

If you're connecting via USB, make sure that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same network. If they're not, then it may be difficult to connect them. To fix this issue, you'll need to change which one of your devices is on which network.

If you're connecting via Ethernet, make sure that both your printer and laptop are connected directly to their respective routers or modems so that they can share an internet connection (and not just over Wi-Fi).

If everything is working properly, just plug in one end of the cable into one of the USB ports on either device, then plug in the other end of the cable into an empty USB slot on your computer. Then close any pop-up dialog boxes and installation screens that appear during this process.

If you have trouble connecting to your printer or scanner with this method (or if you don't see anything happening), try following these steps:

  • Make sure you have a good-quality cable plugged into both ends. The best way to make sure this happens is by using a spare USB port on your laptop or computer instead of using one from another hub (like those included with some computers). This will also prevent any conflicts between devices connected through hubs and those connected directly using cables like ours here!
  • If possible avoid connecting any external hard drives or flash drives directly into your dock as well since they can lead to more problems than solutions like ours where all we needed was access straight out through one single cable instead!

On Windows 10 you'll be able to see if everything's connected properly by opening up Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Devices and Printers / Add a Printer. If nothing shows up under Add a Printer then your connection will not be successful!

If you're still having problems, try restarting your computer. You may also want to check the printer's manual for help. If that doesn't work, unplugging and replugging the cable into both devices could be what's causing the issue.

All that's left to do now is connect your printer to your laptop and start printing! It is as simple as connecting one cable to two devices. Keep in mind that every computer has an internal network adapter that allows you to connect through wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi without needing any additional hardware. If you're having trouble finding a port on your laptop, try plugging the USB cable into another USB port instead of one of the slots beside it—this might be where there's already something else plugged in, blocking access. You can also go into Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Devices and Printers / Add a Printer if nothing shows up under Add a Printer then your connection will not be successful!
