Laptops are great for work and play, but if you're like me, you probably want to make sure your laptop lasts as long as possible. I'm not talking about the physical parts like the screen or keyboard; what I mean is how to maintain & extend the life of your laptop. Here are some tips that will help keep your laptop working smoothly and efficiently:
If you are looking for any installation/repair/consultation for your devices such as MacBook, Windows Laptops, Smart Home Products, TV Mounting, Home Security Devices, Networking, or/and more, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Keep Your Laptop On a Solid Surface
- Keep your laptop on a solid surface.
- Avoid putting the laptop on the bed, couch, or carpet.
- Avoid putting the laptop on your lap while you're typing or watching videos. This can cause injuries to both yourself and the machine if it falls over unexpectedly.
- When traveling with a laptop, ensure that all bags are out of reach of toddlers or curious pets before placing them in storage areas that might be accessed by inquisitive creatures.
- Do not place a laptop computer anywhere near an open window where wind currents may carry it away from its intended destination (elevator shafts being one example).
Keep Your Laptop Away From Your Body
- Avoid touching the laptop.
- Don't put it in your lap.
- Don't put it on a bed or a pillow.
- Don't put it on a blanket or cushion (unless you want to risk getting lice).
Keep It Cool & Connected.
- Don't leave your laptop on your lap.
- Don't put it in a tight space.
- Don't put it near a heat source (like an oven) or direct sunlight for long periods without turning off the power adapter first.
- Don't put it on soft surfaces like bedding or pillows because they can cause damage to the internal components of your laptop over time due to friction and settling dust particles into hard-to-reach places inside its case which will eventually cause corrosion if left unchecked for too long.
Avoid Static Buildup.
- Avoid synthetic fabrics.
- Avoid carpeted floors and other surfaces.
- Try not to touch the screen with your fingers, or use gloves when handling it. If you must handle it, take care not to touch any surfaces near the screen before putting on protective gear (such as a lab coat). Don't wear socks or shoes around your laptop unless necessary; this can cause static build-up which causes damage over time.
Dust and Clean Regularly.
Dust and clean regularly to extend the life of your laptop.
- Use a soft cloth, preferably one with cotton fibers, to wipe the keyboard, screen, and vents on the bottom of your laptop.
- Use compressed air to clean any dust from inside the vents on the top or bottom of your laptop.
Turn Off the Apps You Don't Use.
To save battery life and extend the life of your laptop, you need to make sure that you are not using too many apps at once. The best way to do this is by turning off all the apps that are running in the background, or those which aren't needed often. By doing this, we can save money on our electricity bills as well!
To maintain & extend the life of your laptop, reduce its workload, keep it clean and cool, and take care of its power supply.

- Keep Your Laptop Cool
The first thing that comes to mind when we hear about keeping a computer cool is using a fan or heat sink. But there are other ways too! For example:
- Turn off all non-essential apps like Facebook or Gmail to save battery power; otherwise, they'll drain all available power on their own while running in the background. This will also help prevent overheating so that no damage occurs due to excessive heat buildup inside your machine (which could result in blown capacitors).
It is not difficult to keep your laptop in good shape. You just need to follow these simple steps: keep it on a solid surface, keep it away from body contact and avoid static buildup. If you follow these tips, your laptop will last longer and perform better than ever before!
